Can I do articling with a study permit?
I'm not sure I quite understand the question. Are you a law school graduate? If so, from what jurisdiction? I also ask because this may stray dangerously close to asking for legal advice depending on the specifics, so clarification would be helpful on all counts. -

2L Summer Jobs in Criminal Law?
Get involved in whatever volunteering your school offers in criminal law. And I mean work involving actual criminal files and client interaction, not a research position. I know firsthand of people who were interested in criminal law and quickly were able to filter themselves out through this before securing jobs in other practice areas during recruits.- 1

2L Summer Jobs in Criminal Law?
Context: I just finished 1L. I did well. Criminal law is my main area of interest career-wise. I want to work in Manitoba (though infos abt BC, Alta, ON welcome for analogy or posterity). Question: What should I apply for for my 2L summer? When are deadlines? How make competitive application? (Are these the wrong questions to be asking rn?) Thanks! ❤️ Follow up Question: Assume I'm the sort of person who's just not cut out for a criminal law job, or criminal law jobs just aren't best for me, or whatever. How would I find that out (stress test my interest in the field) as quickly and cheaply as possible? -

Transfer students to Robson Hall
Answer to my own question for posterity. As of 2024-25 cycle, 1) transfer app can't be meaningfully complete w/o final 1L grades (effectively a mid-may open date) 2) deadline for all info (grades, personal statement, LSAT) is June 30 of relevant year 3) decisions typically issued in mid-august (sounds absurd but apparently it's true) I'm submitting a transfer app. Will update w/ results for benefit of future applicants.- 1

Can I do articling with a study permit?
I am now holding a study permit. Can I do the LPP program in Ontario? The first four months will be online, and then four months in a law firm. I am worried whether I can do it with a study permit. I have asked LSO and LPP, without having any reply yet. Could anybody kindly answer my question? -

If no news by now should I assume an R?
Replying to this... 1) Try and step back from the forums and emails. you'll go mad - this was me last year and I was sick to my stomach. 2) Acceptances in August are common across Canada, not just NB. I was waitlisted at TRU and got accepted Aug 6th. Others were Aug 11th and Aug 30th.... If there's seats, they'll fill them. 3)Take a breather this summer, schedule a September or October LSAT write if you want, but honestly just try to enjoy your summer. After I was sick to my stomach in June from waiting I made the most of my July and Im grateful because I got in Aug 6th and it was NON stop until I left at the end of August. Coordinating a move, housing, and funding in 2.5 weeks sucked but I got into law school and was going after my dream. Thats all that mattered. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. -

articling chance? any Bay Street hire articling students?
from uottawa. 1L: average B+ (one C on transcript) 2L: average B+ (one C on transcript). what is the chance for a big firm at this stage? -

anyone appeal their grades and received an higher one?
i just received my grades, one of the classes received a C!! The rest of term grades are A- or B+ or B. Anyone who appealed before and received a successful result? Could you please share your experience? Thanks -

I did not have any connection to NB. It can be stressful figuring things out last minute, but it is definitely do-able. I would recommend while you wait to begin thinking about how to improve your application for next year, that way if you are not successful you are already on your way to preparing for next years round of applications. Retake the LSAT, edit your personal statement, volunteer, improve your resume, etc., make sure you are not just re-applying but making improvements on your application if law school is something that you really want to pursue. I was not accepted the first year I applied. -

Gives me so much hope, thanks for your response !! Did you have a NB connection? I'm just wondering if acceptances sent out in August are exclusive to NB residents since it's so close to the start of the semester
