It's usually a good sign but honestly, you never know until its 5PM and you get a call.

I know it's difficult but find confidence in yourself that you have the skills, personality and grades to get you to Day 3 in 1L that's a huge feat! Best of luck

Thank you! Best of luck to you too!

Just your annual reminder: if you strike gold in the recruit, be careful how and to whom you communicate it. There are always a lot of hurt feelings and your victorious linkedin or instagram updates might be perceived the wrong way. That doesn't mean you can't celebrate. Things are opening up, go out and eat/drink something nice.

Good luck everyone.

I think there's split opinions on this. I would just send personal messages to folks that helped you through the recruit letting them know a) you got the job and b) thanking them for their help.

You can post on social media, but it may not be the wisest to post the exact name of the firm. But I guess that depends on the people you have on social media.

A friend of mine had a terrible experience as a result of her sharing such information on social media. Her ex sent her nude photos to the firm out of jealousy (he was also competing for that position but didn’t get it).

I really don’t know what the firm said, but I know she did not end up summering there. She may have chosen to decline her offer due to embarrassment, or maybe the firm suggested she decline. I’m really not sure.

A psycho ex sending revenge porn to an employer is a horrifying story to be sure but that's not really a broad and generalizable reason for everyone else to keep law school recruit outcomes on the down-low (the actual reasons have been discussed ad nauseum here before).

You are correct in that it most definitely is not a broad and generalizable reason. My point was to let people know that they should consider the kinds of people that they have on social media before posting up like that. It was more of a caution.

Surprised it needs to be said, but annual reminder that acting like a dickhead because you’re jealous of your peers and incapable of managing your own emotions is infinitely worse than making a stupid LinkedIn post.

That applies to both the extreme of acting criminally dickheadish and the average law student nonsense.

If it’s an annual reminder why is it surprising  you?

Is LinkedIn even necessary? I’ve been successful so far staying off of it completely but hoping that won’t have to eventually change.

That said, if anyone wants to talk (celebrate or vent, both are totally valid after this hellish process), my inbox is open

Oh boy if this is hell you've got another thing coming in this career. This is the 1L Recruit.

Loooooooool

I’m just going to go crazy waiting the next little bit. Since they can send out offers anytime now, and even tomorrow.

I would support self-congratulatory LinkedIn posts, if they were openly self-congratulatory. For instance, “I am humbled and honoured to share that I have accepted a position with some truly inspiring …” is bad, because it’s (a) not really true and (b) is a little insufferable. Instead, be honest. I suggest something like the following, all of which I hope to see circulating without irony:

  • “thanks to BLG for offering me a pathway to a life of material comfort, I like comfort and money”;
  • “I have accomplished something and I’m seeking external validation, please validate me by liking and commenting on this post”; or,
  • “I told everyone I was applying to forty firms. I’m slightly insecure and now I worry that if I don’t post this, my peers will assume I didn’t get hired at any and judge me, so I’m announcing that I got hired, I’m not stupid, thank you for reading”.

I was recently texted, “OMG THEY HIRED ME WTFFF”, which I found charming. If one of you posts that on LinkedIn, I would probably like it.

I mean having to have dinners and drinks with corporate lawyers is certainly my idea of hell.

It's COVID. We haven't had dinners and drinks with students since the 2020 1L recruit. People are just zooming into interviews in quite possibly the easiest recruitment process imaginable with the lowest stakes these students will ever face in their careers.

Which firms has contacted ppl so far? If we haven’t heard nun yet is that most likely a rejection?

BLG, TGF, Osler at least.

Bereskin told someone on Day 3 they'd find out late tonight, well past 5pm. Not sure if it's one-off for that person (e.g., they're waitlisted) or the firm hasn't finalized things yet.

I know people who have heard from Blakes and Davies as well, so just adding those to the list.
