U of C Law Advice
Por qué no los dos? If you bomb the LSAT then, realistically, you will know you probably shouldn't waste time with the GPA boosters unless you actually want the CompSci degree. If you do well on the LSAT then you can apply and take your chances, and complete another year if you don't get in to try again. Both of those GPAs are likely below the average for an admitted student, so you'd likely need a higher than average LSAT to compensate. I believe UCalgary posts stats for each incoming class. While yes, admission is "holistic", if you browse the admitted/rejected threads you'll notice a trend of admissions & rejections largely tracking stats and can infer from that as you wish. -

Transfer Thread 2025
R from UofT transfer yesterday LSAT: 166 Undergrad gpa: 3.83 (per OLSAS) 1L grades: 3 x A- , 1 x B+ , 1 x B , 1 x B- B- grade was from a 1 semester (3 credit) course. All other grades were year-long (5 credit) courses. -

Thoughts on working in multiple practice areas
I’ve also spoken with a few lawyers who practice in two distinct areas and, contrary to more rigid opinions, many say it’s feasible if you have a clear positioning strategy. It reminded me of something I recently came across in healthcare marketing from Fortress - even though it’s aimed at physicians, the general idea of building authority across multiple directions applies here too, especially in underserved or rural settings.- 1

UBC vs uOttawa
As a uOttawa grad, I did find there were opportunities available to meet lawyers working for the Federal government and learn about them and their career paths. It also seemed like Ottawa students punched above their weight in Supreme Court clerkships, although these still required top tier grades. The benefits pretty much end there. If I was flexible in location, I'd pick UBC every time. -

Transfer 2025
I think we should make one for sure! I am okay with WhatsApp. I accepted on Thursday June 19 and it has not shown up on OASIS which is weird because the admissions people via email told me yesterday they cannot see firm acceptance there, however, I got another email today from them saying they received my firm acceptance, just waiting for the deposit (which I also sent over). I went to OASIS to check the “response to offer” and it still did not update. Perhaps email admissions and ask them if they received it instead. I also have issues with my PPY account, I did not get an Osgoode email due to that but I was told to wait 5 business days. Feel free to reach out as it would be nice to have friends before the school year starts! -

Chances for the 2L recruit
I would shoot your shot, I got multiple offers to interview in 1L recruit with a B-/C+ average at midterms (Declined them, and happy I did). I also know multiple people who got job offers who are weaker students. -

Hello, I completed my first degree in Sociology last June (2024) with a cGPA of 3.5, and L2 of 3.84; I then started a degree in Computer Science (Fall 24), and just finished my first year with a GPA of 3.25 (taking only core classes, can't take options). My L2 GPA is now a 3.58, I understand U of C Law admissions are holistic so I was curious on if I should simply try for the LSAT and aim high, or attempt to repeat/complete another year taking "GPA boosters" and attempt to increase my GPA to around a 3.64. If LSAT, what would be a good score to aim for to ensure admission? My EC's/Work Experience Include: AI Research Internship (this summer), previous Machine Learning Internship (last summer), Student Nursing practicum experience, various personal projects (programming) and clubs pertaining to food insecurity and mental health. I also have decently strong reference's (Profs in CS/Sociology + Ex-Coworkers in FAANG) -

Hi, just wondering how long it usually takes for it to show on OASIS that you've accepted your offer on OLSAS? Also, is anyone else having trouble creating their PPY account, or does it normally take a few days before we get access to set this up?- 1

UBC vs uOttawa
I think this is a good point to keep in mind. Ottawa has a reputation on this forum for being good at placing students "in government" but fundamentally I just don't think that is true. As anyone who's worked in government can tell you, the application and hiring process is pretty restrained. You either check the boxes and get the points or you don't. There may some fringe advantages to being located in Ottawa, but nothing significant enough that I think it should significantly impact your choice of school. If you pick Ottawa, pick it for the actual merits of the school and not the purported ones.- 1

uOttawa vs. Queen's - Corporate
I wouldn't try and predict where you'll land in a given class, it comes down to more than just LSAT score. If that is your your only hesitation with Queens, then I would say that should be your choice. -

uOttawa vs. Queen's - Corporate
Got into both Queen's and uOttawa. Gunning for Bay St. corporate placements as I have a business background - I know Queen's has better Bay St. placements but I only got a 157 on the LSAT after three attempts and am worried my grades will be marginally lower than my peers at Queen's vs. Ottawa due to my LSAT being more in line with the uOttawa mean than the Queen's mean. I'm still leaning towards Queen's, but I know how important 1L grades are for the recruit and I know grades are marked on a curve against your classmates, so this is making me second-guess myself. -
