Mental Health Medication
I have been struggling with my mental heath and my doctor has prescribed me medication. I have not started it because I am worried about the side effects specifically I am worried about the side effects making it harder to work. Does anyone have experience starting medication and how they managed any side effects or issues while working? I don't feel comfortable telling my employer and I don't feel like I can take any time off if I have any issues because of the workload. Any advice would be appreciated. -

First time attending Federal Court (Judicial Review - Immigration) – attire and hearing conduct?
You have to gown for the hearing. IMM JR's are similar to other hearings at the FC. Make sure you stand when the attendant announces the judge is entering. The judge will usually start the hearing by explaining how the hearing will proceed. Unless otherwise stated, IMM JR's are scheduled for 90 minutes, try not to (read: don't) exceed your 45 minutes. Don't just read your factum to the judge, they've already read it. Hi everyone, I will be attending my first Federal Court hearing for a judicial review in an immigration matter. I haven’t had any colleagues or mentors who’ve done this before, so I am hoping someone here can guide me on what attire is expected for counsel during such a hearing (i.e., do we gown, or is formal business attire sufficient?). Also, if anyone has attended or conducted one of these hearings, I would really appreciate any tips on courtroom conduct, what to expect, or how to prepare. Thanks in advance and really appreciate the support from this community. -

Whats the view on applying to offices in multiple cities within the 2L recruit?
Hi everyone! I'm looking to apply to two different cities in the upcoming 2L recruit. For more context, I do have quite a strong and legitimate connection to both cities. While I'm sure it differs on a firm-to-firm basis, I was wondering what the general view of applying to the same office in multiple cities is? lots of students put volunteer work / community initiatives as a separate section on their resume to capture stuff like this as well as club exec positions in law school- 1

Your best shot is at TRU, TMU, Windsor, Lakehead, or USask. Your worst shot is at U of T, UBC, or U of A. Everywhere else is more of a crapshoot imo. If you can get your LSAT to 160+ you'll open more doors.- 1

Average Grades: Chances for Toronto 2L Recruit
I think you will likely get a few interviews. Because few UBC students apply to the Toronto recruit, you will be competing against far fewer students for interviews, which is a point in your favour. However, firms don’t have to interview you just because they have available interview slots. I know UBC students with average grades who have been hired on Bay St. However, I don’t know if their grades were average pretty much across the board the way yours are, or if they had more of a mix of 80s/high 70s/mid 70s/a few lower grades that worked out to a middling average. The problem you’re up against IMO is that you only have one above-average grade. UofT’s grading system does an extremely good job at obfuscating class rank. UBC’s use of percentages rather than just letter grades, in contrast, makes it extremely clear where students rank, meaning that employers can differentiate between students to an exacting degree, which is a lot harder to do under UofT’s grading system or even at schools that just award letter grades. Though again, because there aren't a lot of UBC students who apply to the Toronto recruit, Toronto employers may not have lots of other UBC students to compare you to. You should speak with the CSO and UBC students who got jobs through the Toronto 2L recruit for their thoughts.- 1

Understandably! For medical reasons, I’m hoping to stay as close to home as possible (Toronto). I am retaking the LSAT and hoping for a higher score to boost my chances. -

Very slim chance at UofT, if any, coin toss for Oz, not familiar with UBC(have heard that they are ditching the index this year), pretty good chance with Queens and uwo.
