Suits
No, but if that's your style, there is no reason you can't wear that. A lawyer I know own a suit kind of like the one below and gets compliments. He also explained that he got the suit while in Britain when he did not have his normal suits with him, which goes to supporting that the vest is not normally worn in Ontario settings. -

UNB vs Windsor Dual?
Choose UNB Law. The dual JD program at Windsor is predatory and is pretty much aimed at gouging students at the bottom of the list who would otherwise not be able to attend law school anywhere else. Mercy Law has terrible bar passage rate and sits very low in national rankings in the US. Best of luck to you. -

Accepted 2025
I had an interview on Tuesday, and despite being told that I would hear back in 2-3 weeks, I recieved an email earlier today. 161/78% (UBC), documented disability (don't do brain tumours and/or epilepsy), and a master's degree with an 8,5 (Dutch scale) and an award for the best thesis of my specialisation. Mature applicant (32), with a lot of professional and volunteer experience—I'm also a pretty cool and humble person. I have until 16 May to accept, and I absolutely will. See you all in September. -

Relevance of Percentile of points at Law School
Hello everybody, I am an ITL and completed my NCA requirements from UBC. The average point in all six courses is 80%. I wonder whether these points are good or not for Articling positions. For example, in terms of students' average scores, where do I stand? Thank you. I am new to Canada and have yet to understand which range of points are considered good, very good, bad, average, etc. -

Toronto Big Law Hireback 2025
Not fatal. Most people who article in big law can fairly quickly find another firm to take them on as a first year, and firms often provide resources to help out their students that they can't keep on. Hireback is often not due to poor performance but lack of need in a particular area - for instance, if a firm can only hire two litigators but has four students who only want to work in litigation, two will get cut. But they will be a good fit for another firm that had more students interested in corporate. That said, bad hireback across the board will mean there will be less positions at other firms, plus there will be more competition. Articling in big law still carries value for applying at smaller firms, boutiques, in-house, etc. but it will be more of an uphill battle in a bad economy.- 3

Choose UNB law. Also, I think that you have high chances at uOttawa law and TRU law, given that both uOttawa law and TRU law are not more competitive to get in compared to UNB law. Good luck!- 1

UNB vs Windsor Dual?
UNB seems to make more sense in this case. Personal Injury isn’t really a competitive field to enter. You likely won’t struggle too much getting a job in your hometown, especially since you have a bona fide reason to be there. You’ll likely want to minimize your debt. Windsor Dual is prohibitively expensive, even if you lived at home. Mercy has also dropped heavily in US rankings, and there’s an informative Reddit post somewhere that sorts the school into the “predatory” category now. On the other hand, UNB has a fine reputation.- 1

UNB vs Windsor Dual?
These are my two options at the moment. I am waitlisted for Windsor single and I have yet to hear back from Queens, Ottawa and TRU. Ideally I would like to practice personal injury law in Ontario (where I am from). Windsor is close to home for me however the price of the dual program is astronomical. If I chose UNB, would I have a good chance of being able to article/practice in Ontario? I am also scared that the tariffs being imposed will make the toll fee higher/tuition on the American side more but I do not want to jeopardize my changes of making it back to Ontario. Any insight is appreciated! -

Toronto Big Law Hireback 2025
Forgive me if this question seems naive. Aside from the obvious gut punch of not getting hired back, how fatal is it to not get hired back after articles? Is it similar to failing the 2L recruit insofar as you will struggle to land a Big Law job until you’re 2-3 years out?
