question about personal statements
for this law school im looking to apply to, one of their questions asks why that specific school. i would love to join that schools newspaper and it is definitely a big factor on why that school is my top choice. but would it be unwise to include that, because it may look like im more interested in journalism in that school instead of actually studying law? -

You should never self-reject. With your stats, applying is a no brainer in my opinion. Are you a guaranteed acceptance? Obviously not. But would it be unfathomable that they take a liking to your application and overlook the GPA? Not at all. It has been done plenty with a high enough LSAT. The cost of applying (what is it, $50 or something?) is too low to not take the chance. Worst case you're out a few lunches. Best case, your life changes. Although, I would adjust my expectations if I were you. Expect and plan to not get in with anything else as a bonus. -

Chances for Dal and UNB + advice
I don’t see why you shouldn’t apply this year. I know people who got accepted to both with similar or even slightly worse stats and being a local gives you a leg up on non-maritimers. Personally I think not taking a gap year and keeping study habits helps with the transition into 1L which can be pretty chaotic. -

Chances at UofT with a low GPa and a 172 LSAT
Hi everyone, Here are my stats: I graduated with an engineering degree in 2022. My L3 GPa is 3.56 and my L2 GPa is 3.74. My LSAT is 172 Work Experience 2 years in construction operations post grad 1.5 years working in a research lab and yielded one publication 2 summers of internships at a small tech startup. The reason I am aiming for UofT is because I'm hoping to have a better chance at working in the US without having to go to a US school. Should I even bother applying to UofT since they value GPa over LSAT? Thanks. -

Advice for LSATs
Yes it is very early, and instead of indulging your paranoia and spiraling down that hole you should acknowledge the feeling and prioritize your undergrad academics instead. Or prioritize having good experiences and becoming a fun person to be around. If you have aptitude for law school, then you will be fine if you start prepping in your last year of undergrad. But if you don’t aptitude for law school, then prepping for the lsat in year one of undergrad won’t ultimately change things. So might as well forget about the LSAT until you’re at least in your third year. -

Advice for LSATs
You should visit the LSAT subreddit. It has great resources in the sidebar that you can start with! Also note that while the subreddit is great for general information and planning, the loudest voices on there make it seem like everyone is walking around with a 175 after 2 months of prep. Don't fall for that trap - everyone has their own pace.- 1

Chances for Osgoode/Queens?
Oh, we agree - we're just petting different parts of the elephant. If you're smart enough to get a 165, there's no "aiming" involved; you'll get the 165. If you, like a majority of people who take the test, your aptitudes top out at a 152 or below, well, "aim" all you want - I'm "aiming" to win the lottery. The only reasonable approach is to try to get the best score you can get. But some damned smart people take this test. "I am simply going to aim to do better than 89% of them" is needlessly self-abnegating if you do play at that level and is a pipe dream if you don't, and in neither case is it a productive approach.- 1
